Welcome

Welcome to our diverseCITY! Let's celebrate diverse sexualities and genders. Let's consider how diverse Adelaide is and how diverse we would like it to be... How diverse is our community and how accepting are we of diversity and difference? Feast 2008 recognises our differences, exploring these through a program of queer cultural activity that reflects the unique individuality of the people who make up our community.

I like to imagine a city that is more visibly queer. One that is as culturally and artistically bent all year round, as it is during Feast. I like to imagine a city in which we can walk down the street holding our loved ones' hands, without fear of harm. I ask you to re-imagine our city. What excites you about our city? What makes it unique? And what makes it home?

As Feast continues to cement its place as Australia's leading Festival of Queer Arts and Culture, I am especially excited by the breadth of this year's festival. I guarantee an abundance of artistic excellence, daring and groundbreaking expression, and inclusive, welcoming community events, in which the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex & Queer community can celebrate who it is.

Feast is truly an intercontinental festival. I welcome our international artists and visitors, our fabulous local artists and our community event organisers. Without you Feast would not be what it is.

I welcome back a Feast Hub, which this year is at Higher Ground. Please, claim it as your own and feel free to be as beautifully bent as you like! From November 15 - 30 consider it your home away from home. The Hub is a place to engorge your senses: meet, eat, drink, dance, talk, watch shows and view art. For the first two days of the festival it is also home to Feast's Queer Thinkers program, from which you can look forward to a wealth of inspiration.

Welcome back, also, Mega Drag. After a year's break, I'm sure it will go off! And I know many of you will be happy to see the return of the glorious Feast Garden Tours.

You will notice many new partnerships that Feast has made this year including those with the Sydney Opera House and Brisbane Powerhouse. For the second consecutive year Feast extends beyond the state's borders, to present our headline acts, Taylor Mac and Lea DeLaria, in Melbourne. Feast continues its Spreading the Love program, with events presented as far and wide as Tea Tree Gully to McLaren Vale.

Be sure to catch Private Lives: a one on one theatrical experience through Adelaide. With only 90 tickets available, book early, as this is surely one of the most original ways of exploring our diverseCITY this Feast!

Welcome to Feast 2008. A festival for you, designed to encourage you to express and embrace our diverse community and our diverseCITY.

diverseCITY: Let's debate it, demand it, promote it and flaunt it!
