Thank you...
...to all those who have provided feedback on this year’s event so far. Your comments, advice and ideas are crucial to us continuing to deliver a quality and diverse festival.
The feedback we have received so far is wide ranging and below I have touched on the main concern to date and showcased other comments and feedback as well.
Toilets @ Picnic in the Park
Toilets were a particular concern for this year. The contractor we had engaged, with trailer mounted toilets was unable to provide them due to the bushfire situation in Queensland where they had been deployed prior to Feast. Without making excuses, I personally apologize for the toilet situation, we were left in a difficult situation regarding the toilets and the toilets provided were a stop gap measure , certainly not ideal. In saying this we have approached a local company who is willing to support Feast picnic on a ongoing basis will allow Feast to Double the amount of toilets from previous years, we actually provide 2 additional toilets over the specified amount from Liquor licensing this is by no means an excuse, I was personally very embarrassed over the situation.
Pride March Route
As the Pride March is a registered Feast event and not run by Feast, this response is provided by Margie Fischer on behalf of Pride.
2 years ago Adelaide City Council and the police decided that no March could go down Rundle st as the road was too narrow due to the outdoor tables and chairs that cafes along the street have outside. This applies to the Pride March and the Fringe Parade. Pride spoke to Council who were unable to compromise as they see it as a public safety issue. Council also said the same applies to Hindley St. As Feast’s Opening night is at Adelaide Uni there isn’t a lot of alternatives- we could go down King William St however the route is then a lot longer and difficult for some marchers. Also the is less of a crowd along King William St than North Terrace on the weekend. We could consider marching all the way up North Terrace and down King William St then into Memorial Drive.....
But unfortunately Rundle and Hindley St’s are not possible.
Other Comments
• “Just want to reaffirm that the committee is delivering a better and greater feast every year”
• “I think the Visual Arts bike tour is a fabulous idea - the weather was against you but I think it should run again and next year I will rally some troops for it. Best to ensure that we can get access to all gallery/spaces (the exhibition at 129a Hindley was closed). I'd also like to see the other form of "Bikes" at the rear of the Pride Parade. I've talked to people and many said they'd love to be , "Town Bikes"/Dykes on Bicycles/Peddle Poofs, etc. Some were interested in old fashioned fancy bike decorating - whatever. I'd be very happy to help out with this.”
• “I think it was a great Feast and brilliant to see that young queer Adelaide is out there!!!! If not done this year can I suggest that next year we use Picnic to canvass ideas from the crowd about what innovations they'd like to see in 2011?”
• “Huge congratulations to those that make this happen including, of course, the Festival volunteers!!!”
• “Had a great Picnic in the Park”
• “I was organising the GLCS stall at the Picnic and wanted to say that it was a fantastic day and well done to all involved. We raised nearly double the amount we have in the previous few years, and were impressed that so many people turned out on a "dodgy" looking day. It was obviously very well publicised by Feast. Overall though it was a great event (and Festival as a whole) and we look forward to next year”
• “Gurlesque was wonderful and any future shows from those girls or others like it would be popular from the attendance I saw. Opening night parade was a little quiet but the opening night party was well set out and a fabulous night with plenty of toilets for the expected crowd.”

MESSAGE FROM KERRY IRELAND - CREATIVE PRODUCER
G’day and welcome to what will be a remarkable Feast Festival. This year, Feast is proud to celebrate a HomeGrown theme that dedicates itself to our thriving local talent. I believe it is essential to cultivate our community’s capacity. So in 2009 Feast gets back to its roots, giving local, interstate and international audiences an opportunity to see local artists and performances. Feast supports our LGBTIQ communities through recognising and supporting our artistic talents, and showcasing these to the wider community.
Feast is proud of our position as a leader among Australian queer festivals. In nurturing local Adelaide LGBTIQ communities, Feast acknowledges and articulates our position in the global community. With a HomeGrown theme, Feast is an expression of who we are, what we believe in, what we do and how we like to play, for all to enjoy and take part in.
Welcome to a Feast that is proud to showcase some of the best of homegrown talent from Adelaide and Australia, representing a diversity of sexualities, genders and art forms.
Our program features fantastic cabaret, comedy, theatre, a superb musical line-up, film, literature, visual arts, community events, sport and poker! You will notice that alongside the marvelous range of homespun talent is the beautifully bent Bridge Markland and Sydney’s Gurlesque presenting their new erotic work. There’s sport – oh and did I mention Poker?
Get down to Feast Hub @ Higher Ground which will feature a stream of splendid performances plus a stage dedicated to work by emerging artists. The Feast Hub is the place to chill out, get fired up, get flirty, get funky and get totally Feast-ed in between a line-up of fantastic shows.
I am particularly enthusiastic about Feast’s HomeGrown focus,as my personal skills and experiences have been fostered by Feast. In 2001 I began working with Feast as a venue technician, and worked my way up to the position of Production Manager. I am thrilled to return to Feast as Creative Producer, with an excellent team of dedicated workers and volunteers and a Board who bring an outstanding array of skills to our extraordinary festival.
So, welcome to a Feast Festival dedicated to you, your communities, your skills and desires. This year Feast fosters our communities so let’s honour HomeGrown and acknowledge our homes as a place to grow, flourish and be fabulous.

Feast would like to acknowledge this land that we meet on during the festival is the traditional lands for Kaurna people and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their country. We also acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today.
