2015 FEAST FESTIVAL EXPRESSIONS
OF INTEREST

Feast Festival 14th– 29th November 2015

Feast Festival is an annual LGBTIQ (Queer) Arts and Cultural Festival and was established in 1997.  Now in our 19th year we promote pride, community identity, inclusion and celebration which maximises community involvement and social inclusion.

Our aim is to present artistically excellent, ground breaking arts projects involving lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, intersex and queer artists from a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds.

2015 Artistic Program.

In 2015, we are changing our delivery model and moving from a fully curated model to a hybrid curation festival. This change in direction looks to merge the effective operating models of other local and international festivals whilst maintaining our unique offering to our community through vibrant and diverse programming. LGBTIQ artists will be able to register their performances, works and endeavours for inclusion in the festivals program alongside major events that remain the mainstay of our program.

This new delivery model was agreed upon by the Feast Festival Board of Management as part of a recent review of operational requirements in response to financial constraints.

The reason for this is to ensure that there is a balanced program of high-quality work that has diverse content, genre, style, and representation.  It is also to strive to improve our audience numbers by limiting the number of works presented and not ‘split our audience’ over a vast program.  This way it is hoped that our artists will be guaranteed good box office returns that will ensure proper remuneration.

There are three ways that you as an artist can be part of Feast:

  • Feast produces and/or presents events.
  • Feast co-presents with artists (sharing costs and box office).
  •  ‘Registration’ self-produced events. (the artist or promoter pay to be registered in the Feast program and take up front risk and all box office takings).

All events will be ‘open registration’ as in the past, however we will still ask that you submit an expression of interest by the 21st of June.

We do not wish the Expression of Interest process to be arduous or time consuming, however the more information you can give us will help with our programming decisions.  It will also help when it comes time to enter your event onto our FARS (registration and ticketing) system.

Please note that the Board of Management has requested that the final program recommendations are presented before the BOM by June 16th in 2015 in order for us to be able to improve on marketing and publicity opportunities. Hence the closing date for Expressions of Interest has changed and is now MAY 4th 2015.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST CLOSE

If your event is selected to be part of the program you will then be invited to complete the FARS registration process. For community events and sporting groups you may be invited to register sooner than the closing date – so get in early)
 

June 16th

Final program recommendation presented to the Board of Management for approval.

Confirmed participants will then be invited to complete registration process - get final images and copy to Artistic Director.

June 30th

REGISTRATION CLOSE

For artists/presenters invited to register. Fee Invoice due.

July 14th

Guide proof emailed to artists/presenters.

July 16th

Print scheme/marketing collateral booking deadline.

July 24th

Approval deadline for guide proof, artists/presenters (any amendments sent to graphic artist) 

July 27th

Print scheme/marketing collateral artwork and invoice DUE*

August 3rd

Final guide proof back to artists for final sign off.

Sept 16th

Feast Festival Launch and ticket sales open

Sept 19th


Artists/presenters remaining 50% venue hire due (if applicable)

There is only a two week turn around to register.

Invoices for registration of events will be issued and payment must be received by June 30th.

*Artist/Presenter 50% Venue Hire fee (if applicable) will also be due.

How will my interest be assessed?

Expressions of Interest will be assessed by the Feast Board and the final program selected to reflect a balanced program of high quality work that has diverse content, genre, style and representation that celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer communities (LGBTIQ). Expressions of Interest close 4th MAY.

Consideration is given to:

  • The work must be of a high quality.
  • The Artist must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or LGBTIQ or the Content of the exhibition/performance must be LGBTIQ relevant.
  • Whether you have members of the LGBTIQ communities participating in key roles.
  • The potential to contribute to the diverse representation of our festival.
  • The festival ensures a mix of established, mid-career and emerging artists.
  • You may be contacted by our Artistic Director to discuss your project in more detail during this process.

Please include support material with your Expression of Interest that will help us understand you and your work better.

URLs eg. YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud & websites are encouraged.  Large support material packages may not be able to be downloaded.

How will I know if I have been successful?

If successful, you will be emailed a letter of invitation to be part of Feast Festival in 2015.

By Monday June 22nd you will be notified of the outcome of your Expression of Interest. If successful you will receive a letter of invitation by email for inclusion in the 2015 Program and you will be asked to register your event. Registration is open for two weeks and will involve completing an online event registration form, confirming your marketing package, payment of required fees, public liability insurance and venue confirmation.

Please note that all your event marketing and promotional material must be submitted as part of the FARS registration in order for Feast to include it in our Feast printed Guide and Phone app.  Details for how to supply this material will be provided to you when you are invited to register.
