MOVABLE FEAST – Regional
Inaugural Regional Outreach Exchange Pilot Project.
- Mount Gambier, Port Lincoln, The Riverland and Whyalla.
In 2013 we were successful in gaining funding from a Youth Connect Grant (Minister Communities and Social Inclusion) to set up safe space and programs for regional queer, same sex attracted and questioning youth in order to provide artistic and cultural activities and to build relationships that may be relevant to young LGBITQ people (as well as the broader community) in order to break down barriers and promote acceptance
We employed two Youth Project Officers (Edwin and Lucy) who have been busy liaising with regional youth in order to present four events in the four regions. These events will be hosted by members of the Feast Youth Committee and involve strategic partners such as Shine, BFriend , Country Arts SA, Riverland Youth Theatre and D’Faces of Art in Whyalla and Ovation Theatre in Mount Gambier. Each program will be initiated, devised and developed through consultation with youth groups, individuals and agencies to ensure the right ‘fit’ for each particular area.
As an initial entree into each region in September we toured Speak Out to schools and communities in Strathalbyn, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier, Renmark, Glossip, Wakerie, Loxton, Burra, Whyalla, Port Lincoln adn Port Augusta.
Speak Out is a fabulous interactive performance piece, devised by Edwin Kemp Attrill as part of his ActNow Theatre. Edwin is the Artistic Director of ActNow and has employed some of the techniques of Augusto Baol in Speak Out. It is a non threatening, non-didactic, interactive theatre presentation about homophobia.
Check out the show at Feast – 2 performances only. Sunday 17th at 4.30pm & Monday 18th at 6.30pm.
