South Australia
– A Brilliant Blend

Feast's 2011 Festival promises to be more brilliant than ever, as South Australia welcomes everyone to enjoy the food, fun and our gay culture.

With more than 800 shopping outlets, celebrated eat streets and pumping nightlife, Adelaide boasts a new adventure at every turn. Walk up Rundle Mall and enjoy our great shopping, admire the 'Malls Balls' or experience our local busking agents. Chocoholics will be drawn to the historic Beehive Corner on the western entrance of the mall, where Haighs Chocolates are to be found. This is the only chocolate maker in Australia that still imports and roasts its own cocoa beans.

For those who like to chill out and enjoy alfresco style cafes, East Rundle Street is where you will delight your taste buds with a bit of Italy, some Greek mezze or even some great Asian.

For those that love night life, Sugar nightclub is the place to relax. On Gouger Street you will find Australia’s first Gay nightclub Mars Bar.  Before you party, enjoy some of the finest authentic Asian foods or, during the day, experience China Town. Garage nightclub on Waymouth Street is a great gay venue on Sunday nights or check out Higher Ground, what was the Feast Hub in 2009 in Light Square.

Immerse yourself in South Australia’s unique history and rich arts culture as you stroll down North Terrace – Adelaide’s ‘Cultural Boulevard’. Here you will find the South Australian Museum and the Art Gallery of South Australia, including Australia’s largest collection of Aboriginal Cultures artifacts.

North Terrace was also part of Feast 09 Pride March route and where you will also find our casino ‘Skycity’ and other great hotels.

Hop on the Glenelg tram and in 20 minutes you’ll realise why South Australia is famous for its beaches.
Adelaide also hosts a great nude beach called Maslins, with sun, surf and breathtaking views only 40km south of Adelaide.

Not far from the city, the Adelaide Hills provide a perfect landscape for leisurely drives with great picnic spots like Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens. Go up to the top of Mount Lofty to over look all of Adelaide. Experience Stirling’s Organic Cafe then the German delights of Hahndorf. Just one hour’s drive from Adelaide is Australia’s richest and best-known wine region. The Barossa Valley has a wealth of regional produce and historic vineyards, which make it wonderfully distinctive and relaxing. Premium wines, five-star restaurants and cellar doors abound among the vineyards and undulating hills, with local winemakers including Seppelt, Peter Lehmann and Penfolds, where you can even ‘make your own blend’ of wine.

The Fleurieu Peninsula has everything from wineries to beaches, national parks and the famous Coorong. Take South Road and spend some time in one of Australia’s top wine regions, McLaren Vale, or get there via the picturesque Adelaide Hills. Widely regarded for producing exceptional red
wines, McLaren Vale is also gaining a reputation for excellent olives and oils, cheeses, almonds and berries. Drop into any of the cellar doors to taste the region’s finest drops and local produce.
