Poetry Pride submissions call-out!

July 21, 2020

ECH’s LGBTI Connect team are running another special literary performance event as part of Feast 2020. This is after the wonderful success of the ‘Poetry Slam’ event last year!

They are seeking submissions from LGBTIQ+ people, young and old.

Poetry Pride aims to bring together young and older people from the LGBTIQ+ community, and their families and supporters, to enjoy poetry, prose and musical performances of up to ten minutes, and audience discussions on the experiences of being LGBTIQ+ in the past, and today. The event is intended to promote understanding of the different perspectives on how you can be out and proud, or how hard it can be.

Submit a poem, poetic-prose or song for performing in front of a sympathetic and supportive audience, with a duration of no more than 10 minutes. The theme is on what it has been or is like for you to be part of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Submissions (in pdf format) should be emailed to ECH LGBTI Connector Stephanie Russell at lcinbox@ech.asn.au, and include ‘Poetry Pride’ in the subject line. Please include your full name in the body of the submission email.

There will be an opportunity for the performer to interact with questions from the audience during the ten minutes of allocated time.

Presentations may be videoed, photographed, and the text displayed on-line.

The event is to be held during 2020 Feast Festival. Saturday 21 November, from 11.00am to 1.00pm. The venue is the Courtyard at the Treasury 1860, 144 King William Road, Adelaide.
